Pest Control By Ensuring Proper Domestic Hygiene

Blog

No one wants annoying pests to invade their home and find safe haven. Contrary to what many people think, however, pests such as cockroaches, rats and mice do not often appear in homes uninvited. There are several possible reasons why these pests invade homes. Poor domestic hygiene is one of them. Maintaining good hygiene at home can go a long way in keeping unwanted pests at bay. Here are some simple hygiene practices you can follow to protect your home from pest attacks.

Clean up properly after every meal.

Many household pests are scavengers that end up in homes simply because food scraps are often left lying around there after meals. Make it a habit to clean your kitchen, cooking appliances and dining area after every meal. Small bits of food left lying on kitchen countertops, on kitchen floors, behind cooking appliances, on the dining table or on the dining room floors can send pests an open invitation to your home.

In addition, you should not leave dirty utensils unwashed. After every meal, you should remove food scraps from dirty dishes and have everything cleaned properly. All food scraps should be tightly wrapped in paper before being put in the rubbish bin. The rubbish bin should have a tight-fitting lid so that pests can't get into it.

Keep your drain pipes and sewer lines properly sealed.

If you are looking to keep pests at bay by maintaining good domestic hygiene, you will require a two-thronged approach—that is, maintain good hygiene both within and outside the home. Cockroaches, rats, mice and other pesky pests usually enter homes through drain pipes, vents and sewer lines, so it a good idea to make sure that all drain pipes and sewer lines connecting your home to the mains sewerage or septic tank system are properly sealed.

Keep your yard neat and clean.

Aside from sealing any gaps in your domestic plumbing lines, it is also important to keep your yard clean and clear of any foliage and debris that may provide hiding places and nesting grounds for pests.

With these tips, you should be able to effectively control pest incursions in your home. But if they find their way into your home for whatever reason, you can always call in a pest control specialist to help you handle the problem. There is a wide range of solutions they can provide to help remedy your situation.
